Diego Ortiz
Creator & AI Engineer
I worked as a Full Stack Developer for 10+ years, and then naturally started moving to a role more focused on AI Engineering. As a Creator, I'm able to edit and produce whole cinematic videos, as well as build and lead companies from scratch, transforming complex concepts into living ecosystems.
Now I’m learning how to build LLMs from scratch, getting to know all the math behind it (Linear Algebra, Calculus, Probability, Statistics) and supported by Python (Numpy, PyTorch). I also possess advanced knowledge in AI fundamentals like Transformers, Attention mechanisms, and SwiGLU, and I've practiced fine-tuning small models like GPT2.

Skills & Toolbelt
It is important to organize the project and track it constantly, because projects aren't just about coding, they are more about people and goals. Here are some tools I use:
- Timekeeping - Things need to exist in my calendar to happen, so I use Akiflow to keep track of my daily tasks and meetings
- Organisation - I keep everything on track using Google Tasks and Google Calendar. I've transitioned from heavier tools like Jira to more streamlined, daily-focused tracking.
- Communication - To be on the same page is really important. I primarily use Telegram and Slack for fast, effective team communication.
- Development - With 10+ years of experience in software development, I've navigated numerous challenges in this evolving industry. I've transitioned to a role focused on AI Engineering, applying advanced mathematics to build LLMs. I'm proficient with libraries like Numpy and PyTorch.
- AI Toolbelt (Generators) - I stay at the cutting edge with tools like Grokipedia, Veo 3, Kling 2.6, Seedance 1.5, Wan 2.5, Imagine, MidJourney, Ideogram, and NanoBanana Pro.
- AI Toolbelt (IDEs & CLI) - My workflow is powered by Antigravity, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Code, Clawdbot, and Warp.
- Design - While I'm not a formal designer, my technical training in Multimedia Production has honed my ability to recognize and evaluate effective design. Proficient in using Figma, I can skillfully create and implement mock-ups, contributing significantly to the design process.
- Languages - I'm a Spanish native speaker but I feel comfortable reading and communicating in English. I also have knowledge of French and Korean (한국어).
- Marketing - Having worked in marketing agencies most of my life and being a former company owner, I understand how deeply the industry is constantly changing and how to adapt quickly.
- Writing - As a regular contributor to the Medellin Community blog and social media, I understand the significance of community engagement. Writing on diverse topics beyond my primary job role not only enriches the community but also aids in the continual development of my soft skills.
- General Knowledge - I was a math champion in contests during high school and university. I can recall from memory every country along with its capital and flag. I read about economics, history, astronomy, physics and current news.
